Sweets for Sweethearts

An array of Sweet roses for Valentines gifts

hand painted roses on vintage metal tea pots, buckets. Sand off the paint to reveal some

metal, it's shabby!

Of of my favorite windows I painted.

After basecoating the glass with white

paint, let it dry, and scrape out a heart

shape so you have a little window to peek through.

A little 8x10 frame is great for a mini

window art. Sponge on the white background

in acrylics, and leave a space around the

edges to see through.

Vintage spoons are great for necklace

pendants. Sand the inside of the spoon with a very fine sponge sanding sheet.Wash with vinegar and soap and water. Basecoat the inside of the spoon with white acrylic paint.

Paint the roses or designs.

Seal with acrylic varnish.

The buttons are handpainted with

folk art enamels. No sealing necessary.

I cut remnants of crocheted pieces from

doilies, then glued on the buttons.

Glue on pin backs or glue right

into a spoon.

Designer Candy bar wrappers are wonderful

to give your sweetheart when there

is Chocolate inside!

Cut sheet music just a bit smaller

than the original wrapper. Paint directly

on the sheet music, or print designs

and/or quotes

onto the paper from your computer.

Add ribbon and handwritten

notes on the paper to

personalize.

Ribbon roses for a Valentines bouquet.

I painted on a dotted swiss ribbon

and tied on a prism which I also

hand painted with a tiny rosebud.

Added pink chiffon ribbon and it makes

a wonderful bookmark.

I'm glad I keep pictures of creations

from a while ago, but the ideas are

still good. Hand painted Valentines card,

hand painted goblet full of ribbon roses,

bookmark, designer candy bar wrapped

chocolate!

I scanned sheet music then

used fonts from my computer to print

quotes onto the paper. Then

I embellished the wrapper with

a hand painted red rose.

Wrap with red tulle ribbon and

This is hand painted directly onto

a satin scrap. Pinked on the edges.

I remove the brown wrapper, and

the silver wrapper looks nice with

the satin.

A decorated recycled cd makes

a great gift.

Vintage pearls add charm.

ESTATE SALE FINDS!

Since we opened the Country Flea Market

we don't get away as often as we like,

but today we escaped and lucked out

upon this estate sale. Whoo Hoo..

Lookie what we found..

I love love love this neat Vintage

desk from the 60's.

I can just see it in a room in a house

that has a great library or reading room.

It would be great for kids to sit at and read

or do art.

Can't you just see this coffee table

with a Makeover? It's a great size.

Available Now, but not for long.

This metal bucket is huge. I am not

sure exactly what kind of bucket this

is but the person who sold it

cried having to let it go. It was her grandfathers. I know just how she feels, I

don't like to let go of family heirlooms.

I paid her and ran like Hell.

We've come a long way here at Country Flea Market.

Started out with an empty space, and now it's full

of stuff and we have had lots of sales.

I love the fence because we can hang

stuff on it and it makes me feel safer.

Long Time I ain't been on here...

I have been missing from a decent internet

connection because of spending so much time away

from home because we are at the Flea Market

over at the Crossroads of Texas

on hwy. 6.

But I'm BAAAACCCCKKKK!

I didn't get to post this newest project I

did for a birthday gift. It was a plain jane

metal yard ornament that was rusty and didn't really

show up at all. Cousin Bessie just loved it as it

was but I dolled it all up and gave it to her for her birthday, and we named it 'Lil Bessie'.

Check out the mary jane shoes...

Bessie's middle name is Jane,

so these are Bessie Jane shoes...

I added a jar lid for the face.

'Lil Bessie Jane' is now on the porch

greeting all of Bessie's friends and family.

I am happy the way 'Lil Bessie' turned out.

New Sign Up for the Flea Market in Hearne, Texas

Flea Market was good.

I finished the sign last week and here's a pic of it:

This homemade easel was in the barn, given to me

by a dear friend and I put it to good use for our Signage.

Guess I could have rented that Sign Ad right next door

and put up a Real Big sign. Nah..I like mine better.

It fits the place.

New Country Flea Market Biz Endeavor

We had our first weekend sale at our New

Country Flea Market

in Hearne,Texas

We have been looking for a place to rent a space from a Co-op or Antique/Craft mall type place.

We found the perfect place in a little town on a busy busy road between Calvert,Tx, and Bryan,Tx.

We had our first sale this past weekend,and we

are Gung Ho to get back next weekend.

We can't wait to haul more stuff over and Sweat off the

pounds under the big metal covered building! It's

really not too bad as long as you have shade

and a breeze.

UpCycled VINTAGE CREATIONS

I love Vintage everything. I seem

to collect dishes, bottles,

silverplated pieces

vintage silverware glass,brass or

wood candle holders.

I have seen where people glue dishes

and candle holders as pedestals

to make a 3 tier candy dish or

display piece for things.

I gathered my favorite things and glued

them together and made these three display

pieces. I love the way they turned out.

The use of pedestal glassware,

old china and candle stick holders,

(brass, wood, or glass)

an old lamp base, and a metal salt shaker without a lid

makes these all unique.

My favorite one is the lamp base with

the glass pieces between and a metal

piece, and I love leaving the top

piece as a flower bud vase.

If you leave the top plate bare,

it's a Cake Stand.

So many ways to create with

vintage pieces.

I love to see these around the house.

I think they would be good to use as a

jewelry holder and display.

Or have a tea party and serve little

petit fours, cookies

and sandwiches, or cupcakes.

It's a good way to make use of your Grandmother's old china and knick knacks.

Here is the glue I used. I got

it at Walmart.

There are many Goop brand glues

for different things. This is really

tacky and sticks instantly, but

takes 24 hours or longer to completely

dry and be strong.

VENTILATE wherever you use this glue.

Or any glue for that matter.

Have fun with your gluing projects,

and go make something Pretty Now!

BUG OFF! Painted Bug Sprayer

When I was a kid in New Mexico, my Mother would use a pump sprayer toward the ceiling to keep the skeeters away, while we hid under the covers. Mosquitos were fierce because we had a water cooler,

not A.C.

I thought about those days as a kid when I painted this old bug sprayer as it got

new life as Art

with a whimsical loosey goosey style.

In Bedias,Texas, where I later grew up,

we had these little red bugs called

'CHIGGERS'.

Chiggers will get in your underwear

elastic and hide til they are ready

to chomp on you. They itch like crazy!

My Grandmother's remedy was to eat

a spoonful of sugar with a drop of

eucalyptus oil in it..YUK!

I'd rather itch!

Spray Me with Bug Spray instead!

I love this colorful style of

painting. Let me go see what else I

can paint some fun whimsical designs on.

An Anniversary Gift to Us

I painted this week Finally.

It's our Anniversary today so I decided to say

this Mailbox I painted is our gift to Us.

I guess this means we're sticking together.

This is a recyled mailbox, and it has special

meaning for us. It belonged David's parents,

the Wymola's from Franklin,Tx.

I am happy we took this mailbox when

the house was sold.

Our Poor little old mailbox that we are replacing

is black plastic and it has been duct taped!

I think the mailman will appreciate a new mail box.

Teeny Tiny Newborn Ladybugs!

We shared a picture of a cluster of ladybugs in

our living room last fall. We thought they were so

cute. My husband, David, came in and told me he

was starting a ladybug farm..well..it was

a joke, but as it turns out..We have tons

of newborn ladybugs on our two acres.

Here is beginning of the cycle.

Then a few stages later, there are

tiny clusters of baby ladybugs

(babybugs)

EVERYWHERE!

SPRING Fever and Sales!

Last weekend I had a Sale at my place.

It was a beautiful weekend and I had a blast

meeting new friends.

I want to do it again soon and have more

Art and Painted wares.

I still have some nice inventory to add to

the next sale.

I love my little faux porch to decorate and

display around, plus there are some shade

trees back there. The tent helps but the trees

are better. I guess it's a real porch, but it's not

attached to anything. I think we might build a

shed off the back of it for future sales.

I sold all those screens you see.

I love having outdoor sales like this when

the weather is good.

The table above is an old table we rescued

after a storm damaged it. The pedestal base

got broken. My dear Roo (dear rooster husband)

crafted a base from old doors

(we have enough old doors to have a Door Store)

and then it got another coat of whitish paint-

I used Behr Flat Enamel. Then I decided

to embellish the top with some designs from

clear acrylic stamps..I love those! I didn't

want anything busy so it's just a hint of

a darker color than the base color.

I used Minwax Paste wax to polish it up.

It looks great.

I am a Table a-holic, NO, a Junk-a-holic!

I have a big ol Pole barn and there are lots of

treasures waiting for their day to be transformed.

The blue dishes look so pretty on the table.

Just in time for an Easter Dinner Gathering.

Maybe we will have an outdoor Easter

dinner party this weekend.

Or if You come buy this table, You

can have your own dinner party,

Table, Dishes and all.

12 Year Anniversary for 'Cackleblossums Art'

It's a Celebration of being in biz as 'Cackleblossums' for 12 years.

I have always loved painting chickens and eggs just as much. I also like to paint flowers so the name

'Cackleblossums' was born.

This cute egg pattern is my logo but I have created

a pattern packet to share!

"Eggfaces"

These little characters I created for my business logo and also

for Easter Decorations over the years. At Houston Art Expo in 2007

They are made from vinyl floor covering.

I like to use the vinyl because you can cut

it out with scissors and make a layered effect.

You could also use water color paper or other paper products

instead of the vinyl floor covering.

I had a kit to make your own pin, but after many requests I

made the pattern packet available so you can purchase to make

your own Eggface Creations. Just in time for Easter decorating.

It's 11 feet long and will be room for all of my family when we get together!

Now I will need to get all my chairs ready.

I like to use a mix of chairs that don't match. Some may get chickens and roosters

or pigs, cows, etc.

I plan to strip the paint from the table and

restore it to it's natural finish.

The table came out of the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce

way long ago.

Looking for Spring

GOT GARDEN JUNK?

Spring is not that far away.

I found these candle holders on a steel rod

but the holders were wood and rotten. So, we glued some glass pieces onto the rods,

and screwed some little old alumninum coffee pots onto a few. Now we can add t-lights

for a nice effect at night to make

my herb garden glow.

I poked holes in the bottom of the

aluminum pots so they could drain

after rain.

JUNKING 1-1-11 STARTED OFF MY NEW YEAR IN MY ELEMENT!

We started off our first day of the new year frolicking

around visiting shops..first stop..Carmine,Tx.

There is this wonderful place called

Texas Trash and Treasures,

You have to stop and see this shop!

They have the Coolest junk and junk art and fine art you'll ever see.

This was actually on New Years Eve day..we

ended our New Year doing what we love..junking

and

EATING

We had lunch at J.W.'s Steak House

in Carmine,Tx.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT!

Next town-Giddings..

We stopped by this great antique

shop called 'The Whistle Stop'..

I Love their new location! It's 10 times

better than the old one.

My favorite Antique Mall now.

They sell the neatest cold drinks like

Black Cherry soda

and Orange Cream soda..and they have

FREE POPCORN,

and they are Super Friendly.

Day Two

We had no idea where to go but we had so much fun on New Year's Eve, we had to go again on Saturday.

We headed out for one of our favorite Towns..

FAYETTEVILLE, TX.

We stumbled upon this shop

I REALLY should keep this a secret,

but NO..I have

to go blabbing all my excitment to everyone and their dog, because I love their dogs too.

The owner of this little antique/junk shop is delightful!

She let me snap a few pics:

I was in Junk Hog Heaven!

I can't wait to take my junk art friends

to this shop! I bought a neat old double

washtub on a stand and it has a metal top..perfect for a Kitchen Island or

to make a sink in my art room, laundry room..whatever.

It Could Happen sooner than you know..

And I found the long long long table

I have been searching for..

I spotted the legs, then saw

the length..it's over 11 feet. This will

some day serve my family for those Christmas

dinners I can't wait to decorate up for them.

I bought gourds, and I found artificial

pears at a garage sale.

Used air dry clay and had a

blast creating chicken combs,beaks

waddles..

It amazed me how easily I remembered

how to sculpt.

I have a fire under me to get lots of Fall Art Decor and Junk
Rejuvenated for my Fall Show coming up in Oct, on the 1st and 2nd.

The location of the show has a back porch as an entrance, so I have
named our function 'Back Porch Society' I am so Eggxited! I'm offering a Gourd Painting Workshop-'PHUNKY PUNKINS' on Friday, Oct.1.
The Salem Fire Department Recreation Hall here in Brenham,Tx. is where
my show and workshop will be. I have a few friends becoming vendors with me
which is making this a Lot more fun. It seems that Junk and Vintage wares
and Art is very popular in my neck of the woods.

I am busy working on lots of inventory for the show..the date I have booked
falls on the last weekend of the Round Top/Warrenton,Tx. Antique shows.
Besides rejuvenated junk into art items, I have some antique dishes and
great finds to show and sell-like these wonderful watermelon plates.
There are 6 of them and they are in excellent condtion.

If you're passing thru Brenham please stop by Salem Fire Dept. Hall to visit
us.

It's EGGSPECIALLY a Wonderful day for me, because my Dear Roo
(dear hubby) is doing wonderful from his knee replacement surgery
he had yesterday! He is giving the nurses a hard time, joking
and being his silly self again!
I Had the nest all to myself last night, well eggcept for Peanut,
my chihuahua, he snuggled in beside me.
I woke up early after my good nights sleep, and logged on to start the
Rooster Party, and I found More pictures I had not added..so I must..

Trade Days in Fayetteville, Texas

Fayetteville,Texas has the neatest little town square you've ever seen.
Once a year, they have a City Wide Garage Sale. The city population is
261. Don't let that fool ya! People flock there on that day. Also they
have a monthly trade days for art/antiques/crafts, etc.. Every 2nd
Saturday. The combination of the two draw lots of folks to this little
downtown square.
My dear friend, Dottie, told me about this little show. She had set up
before there and sold really good. Dottie is an artist I met at Brenham
Flea Market. We became instant friends the first day we met. David
and I decided Thursday that we would work on things to take Saturday.

The first pic here is some wire mesh wall hanging planters we made.
We grow this malabar spinach and this was a great way to show and sell
it. It was a big hit. I sold all the wire mesh planters!

I painted a few wares too. This next pic is a metal water can that I did my
Red Toile designs on. I love the toile on everything now..I am the toile
Queen now! I have gone Toile Crazy! It is available and I'll take it
to our Farmers Market in Brenham on Saturday.

Here's a little overall shot of my booth.

I love Vintage Kitchen wares. I collect a few, then sell, collect more,
you get the idea? Here's a shot:

This is the Courthouse on the square at Fayetteville. It is a painting
waiting to happen.

It was a HOT day in Fayetteville, but we were in the shady yard of the
Courthouse square most of the day.

My Beautiful White Trash (Treasures)

Remember the pics of the old Singer Sewing cabinet I scored at
a yard sale a few weeks ago.. Well, here are the pics again and
then go down and see pics of how I upcycled it to fit my decor:

It was painted a dark reddish brown anyway. If not,I would maybe not have
white trashed it up. I don't strip unless I have to..I used to strip...ha
I worked at a antique furniture finishing store called 'The Magic Stripper'
in Navasota, Texas a long long time ago..That was when I was young and
stoopid.. and thought I'd love learning how to do this stuff. It was the
hardest work I ever did. I did learn a lot though!

New Blog update and What's going on with 'ning'

Well, just another reason to make some changes. I have decided to
shut down my creative network site on ning- junkartqueens.ning
They announced that in July they would phase out free ning sites.
I have not had time to really update with new videos or groups or
classes to keep people motivated, so this was a push for me to make
a change.
I loved building the site and trying to keep it looking neat, but
I spent too much time doing that. I have been told by some members
that they found ning sites hard to navigate. So I am keeping it simple.

The videos are still on my host site at blip.tv. To view the free
art videos you can click here
To continue to view the art videos that were paid for, you can email me to get
the link to the video file on blip, and you'll get a password.

The videos on blip are nice to view, bigger screen, and no problem clicking
to full screen. You can subscribe to my blip site, or to this blog site as well.

Here's to spending time being more creative and sharing with everyone!
Less sites to maintain.

I have lots of ideas to share and now more time to do them. Whether it's a
junk to jewel, trash to treasure, mixed media, watercolors, folk art,
impressionist art, pencil sketching, paper art, scrapper art, junk art
makeovers, yard sale recycles, the sky is the limit.

Sometimes Dreams Come True, so DREAM BIG!

Final pic of the finished wall..Oh,except for a some chickens I may add in the front or on the porch later. My friend, Beverlee asked 'Where are the Chickens'? for now this is it.

First I sketched the design on the wall with chalk. The red house with the porch seemed like a great idea.

Next a Giant Sunflower, and the tree trunk..I based those in:

I added whimsy designs with clear acrylic stamps and stencils:

Had some fun with stencils on my sculptured bushes:

I have not taken photos of the finished wall, but this pic is the last step up to that point..

FIND OF THE DAY!: THIS OLD SINGER SEWING MACHINE! $15.00!

It's sadly painted with a dark brown reddish paint. I might shabby chic it! The seller says it still works! I think it would be cool done in white.

And this shadow box frame clock..$5.00..I'm going to remove the do-daddies in the boxes on each side of the clock, and add family photos. Note-the little sunflower board over to the left...another piece painted by me sometime in the past..rescued and brought home..I'll revive it with color and varnish and It's all mine again..

Lastly: a cool Roto-photo thingy $1.00, tin box of Little Golden books Go Fish cards- 50 cents!, and the yellow place mats also $1.00!

My baby girl, who is now 37 soon to be 38..sent me this in the mail!
We were supposed to Skype while I opened it, like we did for Christmas
when they opened their gifts from me.
I'm HAPPY SHE DIDN'T SEE ME OPEN IT WHILE WE WERE ON SKYPE, I SQUALLED!
IT CAME OUT OF NOWHERE. The apron so pretty and girlie, and when I read
what it says, I lost it. It says 'Home is Where Your Mom is'.
Isn't that just the sweetest thing? It was Happy Tears for me..

I was looking thru my portfolio of Valentines art and projects, and I want to share with you. I have some favorites posted on my youtube channel as a video slideshow,and also with a photo box here on this blog.

Remember to be thoughtful of the ones You Love, with a and painted or hand made card,
or candy bar wrapper. Chocolates are good for anyone. My favorite chocolates are Almond Rocha. They always have out special chocolates just for Valentines.

How I Recycle Old Paint bottles and Baby Socks!

I was painting a baby sock as a Santa, and I needed to position it somewhere so I could paint all the way around it..the 2 oz bottles of acrylic paints are perfect!
You could leave them on the bottle and display, or take it off the bottle, it stands alone anyway. I am thrilled with the Socks as Santas..way cute..I think they would make great ornaments for Santa Collectors!

This painting is on wood. I create a textured background and the technique
is done with tube acrylics, or at least thicker pigment paints. I'll show you
how to paint the colorful backgrounds and add a Rooster and you
can personalize this to say whatever You like. It doesn't have to be
'Sunshine Cafe', it can be customized by You.
The video will be uploaded and the class will begin Dec. 7.
The class fee is $24.00
I will be adding new classes and each of them will be one hour video classes
and you will recieve pdf files and jpg pics of the instructions and any line drawings.
I will teach you to make this Your Own Painting. It will be an original by you.
